Installing VMware ESXi 5.0 in VMware Workstation 7

Create a new virtual machine



Create a new Custom machine







Create Workstation 6.5-7.x compatible machine




Pick the ESXi 5.0 install IOS (VMware-VMvisor-Installer-5.0.0-469512.x86_64.iso)


Select VMware ESX


Give it a name


Accept all the defaults like:

• 2 Processors with 1 core per processor
• 2G DRAM
• Bridged Networking
• LSI Logic SCSI Adapter
• 20G SCSI Disk

Start up the machine and follow all the prompts to install ESXi 5.0. I picked all the defaults.



If you get error: “HARDWARE_VIRTUALIZATION WARNING: Hardware Virtualization is not a feature of the CPU, or is not enabled in the BIOS” ignore it and continue.



 The installation seems to get stuck at 34% but if you wait long enough it continues through
